A Closer Look at Recruitment in Australia
With increased globalization, it is important to take steps to better understand each regional market. Australia is a region that was previously under-researched due to many reasons, including the higher costs. However, as more and more companies find themselves curious about trends Down Under, it is important to understand some of the challenges and pitfalls to this region.
Timeline of Response:
Because Australia (and to an even greater extent, New Zealand) is not accustomed to partaking in research on the frequency of other regions, there tends to be less urgency in responding to inquiries from agencies both inside and outside of the region.
Identifying Key Targets by Role:
Roles and titles can vary greatly from region to region. Medical positions may have similar names, but different job functions than what is used elsewhere. Some positions (i.e. IT Managers) do not exist in the Australian market due to how some job functions are handled nationwide.
Understanding Time Difference:
Whereas many roles in the US are accustomed to email and phone communication throughout the day and evening, the inexperience of respondents in Australia can sometimes translate to indifference when being contacted outside regular business hours.
